The fundamentals of information technology covered in this course helped provide some of the basic skills needed when looking into different IT careers available. Information Technology careers may involve creating business applications, performing system analysis, designing, developing, supporting, and managing computer software, or even working in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence. None of which would not be possible without learning the foundation covered in this class.

IT careers relates to the concepts of information technology and computer science, including the history of computers and the means by which computers operate because of the demand in technology and increase use of computers and it’s continued use. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2022), “overall employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 15 percent from 2021 to 2031.” IT careers are in high demand due to companies finding way to automate their processes. According to Harbert (n.d.), “machines are replacing human judgment and thought, as opposed to repetitive tasks or manual labor.” Since IT employees will be heavily relied upon in the workplace to ensure new automation is processing correct and to find additional automation opportunities, it is important for IT employees to understand the means by which a computer operates and computer science.

Knowing the basic concepts of network architecture, management, and security provides the career opportunity to create plans and layouts for data communication networks. Network architecture concepts manage communication networks, such as local area networks (LANs) and intranets. They play a crucial role in creating, maintaining, and modifying an IP network’s hardware and software. Network architects have in-depth knowledge about a network’s technological requirements.
